Meet Dr. J. Matthew

BSc, M.B.,B.S, MPH
General Practitioner | Public Health Advocate | Health Blogger

Hello. I’m Dr. Jo-Ann Matthew, a general practitioner based in the beautiful island of St. Kitts, where I also proudly call home. My private practice is located at the Medical Associates Building on Victoria Road, and I’ve been working in primary care for the past 9 years.

I’m a proud Pelican (UWI – The University of the West Indies alum) and hold degrees in:

  • BSc in Biology – UWI Cave Hill, Barbados
  • MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine & Surgery) – UWI Mona, Jamaica
  • Master of Public Health (MPH) – University of Suffolk, UK

I’m also fully registered to practice in St. Kitts, Jamaica, and the United Kingdom.

Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of caring for patients at places like the University Hospital of the West Indies (UHWI) in Kingston, Jamaica, and Joseph N. France General Hospital here in St. Kitts. Now, I serve my community as a family doctor, seeing patients of all ages with everything from chronic conditions like hypertension and diabetes, to routine physicals, pap smears, STI screens, and referrals.

But beyond the stethoscope, I’m also passionate about health education. I truly believe that “your health is invaluable”— and the more you know, the better you can take care of yourself.

That’s why I created this blog: to break down important health topics in a way that’s simple, honest, and maybe even a little fun. Because healthcare shouldn’t feel intimidating — it should feel empowering.

Thanks for stopping by! I hope you learn something new, laugh a little, and leave feeling more confident about your health.
